This past year, I have been transfixed by a certain scene about 40 miles west of my home in northern New Mexico.  From many miles around, one can see a somewhat iconic volcanic core, named "Cabezon," punctuating the landscape.  One can also sneak up on it, as is shown in this scene, by traveling around the core on a little-used unpaved road.  I enjoy painting in different palettes from time to time, so I thought I would make a little grouping of this scene painted four different ways:  (from upper left clockwise) (1) somewhat photorealistic (or what the camera might see); (2) using only two complementary colors (Ultramarine Blue and Burnt Sienna, plus white for adjusting values) and all the grays those two colors can make; (3) a more Impressionist palette that uses pure colors while making visual gray tones mainly by juxtaposing two complementary colors;  and (4) a somewhat Hudson-River-School palette emphasizing ochres and grayed earth tones.  Each canvas is 8 in x 10 in, and these are available unframed and only in the complete set of four as shown.
